week 7 power to the people

This week we got all the supplies to make a mini water generator. Mr Georgetti helped us with all the things we needed to make it work.

we tested it out on the taps at a high pressure measuring the volts and pressure then used the power it created to light up a small led light.

We took a video of it working and then uploaded it onto our slide

Week 6 Power to the people

 This week what we did.

This week our group went to the mill down Mill Road. Preslee and I had to go on a journey into the stream to test the water. We realised that the stream was to slow to generate power.

some of our results from the water testing

Clarity was 30cm of visibility

The stream bed was made up of rocks, mud, weeds and rubbish

the flow was slow taking 2.20 minutes travelling 3 meters.

The water temp was 16.6 degrees

we also talked to Mr Thorn

Power to the people

For the past few weeks we have been learning about sustainable power and how it can be used. Our plan is to make energy using the Otaki waterways. Me and my groups question is 'How can we use hydro power to create energy' We are currently planning how to build a water generator model.

 1. What have you achieved/learned/found out since your last post? So far I have learnt about how hydro-power works and the different ways it can produce power. We also watched some videos and read some books form the library about water mills and how they can create sustainable power.

2. How effectively have you used your time this week? I have managed my time well this week finishing our proposal and starting on our research.

3. How have you contributed to your group’s progress? I have collectively worked well with my group and we have all been sharing the load.

4. Glows: something that is going well in your project: What is working well most is our collaboration and knowing what jobs need to be done.

5. Grows: Something you need to work on: Staying on task and finding motivation to make our model.

6. Where could you get help with this?  teachers keeping us on task

7. What are the next steps for your project? Figure out how to make our model, with help from the woodwork teachers and the science teachers.
